Community Treatment Orders

OTMH

A Community Treatment Order (CTO) is a signed legal agreement that allows individuals with severe and persistent mental illness to receive treatment, support and supervision in their own community instead of being in the hospital. The CTO coordinator supports mental health teams and physicians across Halton to implement a CTO through consultation on the CTO issuing process, treatment plan development, assistance accessing local community based services, and facilitating rights advice.

Services Include:

  • Education and consultation to clinicians and substitute decision makers related to the CTO issuing process
  • Assistance with the CTO process including coordinating the development of a community treatment plan, facilitating rights advice, and completion of all legal forms
  • Short-term support and case coordination of individuals being placed under a CTO

Eligibility

Individuals living in Halton with a serious mental illness who have a history of repeated hospitalizations, have shown to benefit from treatment, and who have been identified by their physician as benefiting from a CTO.
