Doula Care
A doula is someone who provides non-clinical support and care to a woman (and her partner) during childbirth. The doula will work with a woman and her family, physicians, midwives and nurses with an aim to enhance communication and understanding during the childbirth process and are welcomed at our hospitals. More information on Doula Care can be found at https://ontariodoulas.org?.
Requests for Gender Specific Deliveries
It is not possible for any of the four hospitals in the Peel and Halton region (Halton Healthcare, Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Health Centre, and William Osler Health Centre) to guarantee requests for female physicians or obstetricians. If this is a concern for you please discuss your concerns with your family physician or obstetrician early in your pregnancy. If you are uncomfortable with the gender of the physicians who are available at the time of your admission into the hospital, a decision to leave the hospital and seek care elsewhere is not recommended. In the interests of the health and safety of you and your baby we ask you to work with the staff available for your care.
We hope that this information is helpful as you evaluate your treatment needs and prepare for the birth of your child. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your concerns, you can also contact the maternity/child unit of your local area hospital directly.
