Located at Halton Healthcare and Trillium Health Partners, the Rapid Access Clinic provides timely assessments of hip and knee arthritis with personalized treatment plans. This program is suitable for individuals 18 years of age and older with moderate to severe hip or knee arthritis, who may also be considering hip or knee replacement surgery.
An Advanced Practice Provider who is a regulated health professional (i.e. Physiotherapist or Chiropractor) with advanced training in orthopaedic care will conduct the access. They will provide information about your condition, and make treatment recommendations that are tailored to your needs. These may include a referral for a surgical consult and/or non-surgical treatment such as exercise or community programs. Candidates for surgery will be referred to consult an orthopaedic surgeon based on preference of surgeon, hospital or next available appointment.
Speak to your doctor or nurse practitioner about a referral to the program. Your doctor or nurse practitioner will also receive a summary of your assessment and recommendations for your treatment plan. Central Intake will send your referral to the Hip and Knee Rapid Access Clinic closest to your home, or based on indicated preference on the referral form.
Wait times are typically within 4 weeks of the referral. The assessment will take approximately 45 minutes, and the patient is encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early to their appointment for registration and complete any patient intake forms.
