Intensive Care

Halton Healthcare  has Intensive Care Units at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) and Milton District Hospital (MDH), and a 3-bed Closed Observation Unit at Georgetown Hospital (GH).

Georgetown Hospital

Georgetown Hospital features a 3 bed Observation Unit located within the Medical Surgical Care Units.  Medical services at GH are supported by diagnostic and therapeutic services within the hospital.

The Observation Unit is used for patients requiring closer monitoring by our specially trained nursing staff. You will be connected to a cardiac monitor and followed by a specialist while in the unit.

Mechanical ventilation can be supported for a period of up to 18 hours but patients requiring longer support are transferred to other hospitals.

The multidisciplinary team also includes, an Internal Medicine Physician, registered nurses with advanced training in critical care, pharmacists, registered respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, and dietitians. This team works together collaboratively to provide quality of care in a compassionate environment.

Milton District Hospital

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Milton District Hospital is a dynamic 6-bed unit which provides both Intensive Care and Coronary Care. Located on the Second Floor, the ICU provides intensive care for a wide range of complex and rapidly changing medical, surgical and cardiac disorders.

The Intensive Care Team provides expertise for patients requiring advanced respiratory and cardiac support, including hemodynamic monitoring.

The multidisciplinary team also includes, Internal Medicine Physicians, registered nurses with advanced training in critical care, pharmacists, registered respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, and dietitians. This team works together collaboratively to provide quality of care in a compassionate environment.

Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital

At the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a combined unit located on the Second Floor and consisting of both Intensive Care and Coronary Care. We serve the Mississauga-Halton LHIN 6 Region.

The ICU provides intensive care for a wide range of complex and rapidly changing medical, surgical and cardiac disorders.

The Intensive Care Team provides expertise for patients requiring advanced respiratory support, hemodynamic monitoring, hemodialysis and other life supporting modalities including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).

The ICU also provides a Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) which is comprised of intensivists and specially trained intensive care nurses. This rapid response team is dedicated to improving patient care outcomes by bringing intensive care expertise to the inpatient units 24 hours a day. The team provides rapid assessment and treatment for the Hospital inpatient population who may require access to intensive care services.

The multidisciplinary team also includes, cardiologists, registered nurses with advanced training in critical care, pharmacists, registered respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, and dieticians. This team works together collaboratively to provide quality of care in a compassionate environment.
