Gender Specific Deliveries

Halton Healthcare is focused on providing a high level of care that recognizes your unique needs. In response to the growing number of requests for same gender physicians we would like to provide you with some information in advance regarding our ability to accommodate such a request.

It is not possible for any of the four hospitals in the Peel and Halton region (Halton Healthcare Services, Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Health Centre, and William Osler Health Centre) to guarantee requests for female physicians or obstetricians. If this is a concern for you please discuss your concerns with your family physician or obstetrician early in your pregnancy. If you are uncomfortable with the gender of the physicians who are available at the time of your admission into the hospital, a decision to leave the hospital and seek care elsewhere is not recommended. In the interests of the health and safety of you and your baby we ask you to work with the staff available for your care.

We hope that this information is helpful as you evaluate your treatment needs and prepare for the birth of your child. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your concerns, you can also contact the maternity/child unit of your local area hospital directly.

Register Your Baby's Birth with Service Ontario

Every child born in Ontario must be registered with Ontario’s Office of the Registrar General. This process makes it possible for birth certificates and Social Insurance Number cards to be produced. These are important documents that your child will have for a lifetime.

A birth certificate is necessary to access government services. You will need a Social Insurance Number for your child in order to access various government benefits and programs such as the Registered Educations Savings Plan, Canada Learning Bon and Canada Education Savings Grant.

You can register your baby’s birth, apply for a Birth Certificate and Social Insurance Number, as well as apply for Canada Child Benefits through ServiceOntario.ca/newborn
