Every patient in the Emergency Department is initially seen (triaged) by a registered nurse who determines the patient's level of urgency. Patients deemed to be most urgent are taken to an appropriate treatment area. Critically ill or injured patients may require transfer to other centres which are equipped to provide a higher level of care. Transfer may take place either by land or air ambulance. A heliport is located adjacent to the emergency department at the Milton District Hospital (MDH) and Georgetown Hospital (GH).
All patients seen in either emergency or ambulatory care must be registered. At the time of registration you will be requested to provide your health card. Your health card number is verified with the Ministry of Health each visit.
