Preferred Accommodations

Halton Healthcare offers private, semi-private, and standard ward rooms. If you are admitted as an inpatient, you can request your preferred room type prior to your admission or during your stay.

The hospital will try to assign each patient to their preferred room accommodation. However, room assignments are based on bed availability, medical needs, and infection prevention and control requirements. This means that preferred accommodation requests cannot be guaranteed. If your preferred room type is not available or suitable when you are admitted, you will be placed in the most clinically appropriate bed space for your care.

It is your responsibility to contact your private extended health insurance provider to verify your coverage. Please note that your benefit coverage can be subject to change, and we recommend that you contact your insurance provider to verify your coverage prior to requesting a room. Halton Healthcare assumes no responsibility for verifying your insurance coverage.

When contacting your insurance provider, please ensure you are obtaining the following information regarding your coverage:

  • Does your benefit plan include coverage for only private, only semi-private, or both private and semi-private hospital accommodations?

  • Does your benefit plan provide full coverage (100%) or partial coverage (less than 100%)? Some benefit plans may include coverage for hospital accommodations, however the coverage is partial which means your benefit plan will not cover the entirety of your bill.

  • If your benefit plan provides full coverage (100%), is there a daily maximum? Some plans cover 100% of the cost, however there is a daily maximum amount that the plan will cover, and this amount can be lower than the hospital’s daily rate, which means you will be responsible for paying the difference out-of-pocket.

  • Is there an annual or lifetime maximum? Some plans have annual or lifetime maximums, which means that previous hospital stays (at Halton Healthcare or other hospitals) can impact your coverage.

  • Is there a deductible amount to be paid? Some plans include a deductible amount which must be paid out of pocket by the patient.

The hospital will bill your insurance provider directly. If you or your family member signs a form to request a chargeable room type, the person who signs the form becomes the guarantor for that hospital stay. Any charges not covered by the insurance provider will be billed to the guarantor. An invoice will be mailed to the guarantor upon discharge and payment is due in full upon receipt of this invoice.

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) covers standard ward accommodations only.
