Adult Volunteer Roles

The Milton District Hospital volunteers are highly visible throughout the hospital. We have almost 300 active adult volunteers who strive to enhance services which the Hospital offers to its patients by supplementing the work of our staff by spending the time to touch the lives of our patients and visitors by helping them throughout the Hospital.

We welcome applications from volunteers of varied skill sets. For those with healthcare degrees or certificates, please be advised that volunteering will not allow you the opportunity to practice or develop your clinical or technical skills, nor are our volunteer roles designed to be professional internship opportunities.

  • Inpatient Unit – assist with meals, visiting, recreational activities
  • Outpatient Clinics – greet, coordinate patient visits
  • Information Desk/Way finding – greet, direct visitors, transfer calls to patients
  • Visiting – spend quality time with patients
  • Administrative – support with reminder calling, filing
  • Emergency – provide comfort measures, information and companionship
  • Gift Shop – assist customers with selection and purchase
  • Fundraising – HELPP Lottery, special events
  • Rehabilitation – assist patients coming for treatments, exercise
  • Waiting Rooms – assist patients or families
  • Leadership/Board – help coordinate groups of front-line volunteers, or serve on the Milton District Hospital Auxiliary (MDHA) Board of Directors

Youth Volunteer Roles

Milton District Hospital’s Youth Volunteer Program offers high school students a chance to be of service to the community, to learn the fundamentals of volunteer work and to be exposed to a health care environment.

Your assistance helps to enhance the service given by staff to ensure the best patient care! We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic, dependable, sincere, able to accept supervision and are looking to actively participate in a valuable volunteer experience.

Opportunities for Youth Volunteers may include:

  • Assisting staff on the nursing units.
  • Acting as a companion to patients by reading to them, playing games and visiting.
  • Meal time support.
  • Serving customers in the Gift Shop and at the Information Desk.

All Youth Volunteers must:

  • Be at least fourteen years of age.
  • Be available to work at least one shift per week.
  • Complete a minimum of 50 hours or 6 months of continuous service before receiving written. confirmation for the hours.
