Halton Healthcare is pleased to welcome Dr. Jessica Shih, Plastic Surgeon, to Milton District Hospital’s (MDH) surgical team. “With her expertise in hand and upper extremity surgery from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Shih brings unique and very valuable surgical skills to our hospital and community and is a very welcome addition to our surgical team,” explains Dr. Kevin Kwan, Chief of Surgery, MDH.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree with a combined liberal arts and science degree from Cornell University, Dr. Shih completed both her Medical Degree and Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery residency at The University of Toronto followed by subspecialty training at Johns Hopkins University in hand and upper extremity surgery.
Dr. Shih’s diverse educational background allows her to effectively blend artistic insight with scientific medical expertise. This unique and valuable combination of skills is applied in her surgical practice to offer meticulous care for patients, while achieving aesthetically pleasing results.
“During my studies, I became particularly fascinated by the intricacies of the hand and the advanced surgical technique and technologies that can restore function, so I decided to pursue this as a subspecialty,” explains Dr. Shih. “I’m able to combine the best and most advanced techniques from leading experts in the field of plastic surgery, including hand, breast, microsurgery, burns and pediatrics, to provide the best care to my patients.”
Dr. Shih specializes in minimally-invasive surgeries that reduce scarring, decrease recovery time, and can be performed under local anaesthesia. At MDH her focus is on complex hand, wrist or upper extremity conditions, injuries or trauma. In addition, she will use advanced nerve surgery techniques to help alleviate pain in patients with arthritis, those with work-related injuries, and individuals in the amputee population.
Born in Burlington, Dr. Shih is excited to return to Halton with her family to serve the community of Milton.
