Environmental Services Week Spotlight: Meet Anoja
At Halton Healthcare, we are grateful for every member of our team who contributes to delivering compassionate, safe, high-quality care. In honour of Environmental Services (EVS) Week, we shine a light on one of our dedicated Environmental Services Helpers, Anoja, and hear directly from her about what makes her work so meaningful.
What is your role?
I’m an Environmental Services Helper. My job is to help maintain a safe, clean environment for our patients, families, and the clinical team.
How long have you been with Halton Healthcare?
I’ve been here for one year. It’s been a year of learning, growing, and feeling more connected to my community every day.
What do you love most about your job?
The thing that gives me the most satisfaction is knowing that my work contributes directly to patient safety by preventing infections. Having the chance to support patients and their families emotionally, especially when they need it most and feeling the reward of coming home after each shift, carrying the knowledge that I made a difference - even in small ways.
Can you share a moment at work that made you feel especially proud?
Walking down a hallway or entering a patient’s room and being met with a simple “thank you” that always touches me. One special moment was when I joined the Burlington Welsh Choir to sing for patients on the palliative care unit. Being able to bring comfort through music in the place I care for is something I’ll always remember.
What part of your job do you find most rewarding?
It’s the personal connections with patients, with families that stay with me. It’s also the sense of teamwork in the areas I work in. Working alongside people who care deeply, pushing together to make each patient’s experience better.
What would you say to your EVS colleagues?
I’m so proud to be part of a team that is so dedicated, with leadership that supports us. We do the “little things” a greeting, helping tidy up, organizing a patient’s room that may seem small, but they help our patients feel more at peace. The praise and gratitude from those we serve reminds us that our work matters. Never underestimate the impact you have. Thank you, Anoja, and thank you to all of our incredible EVS team members for your vital role in our hospitals.
