,
Why is it important to have strong female representation in healthcare?
I think that women make up a significant portion of the workforce in healthcare, and having a strong representation is reflective of the population we serve. Our insight and perspective is important to help shape policies and practice which is inclusive and equitable.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in your field, and how have you overcome them?
Personally, the challenges I’ve faced has been finding a healthy work-life balance. Healthcare is a demanding field, and for many women, balancing professional responsibilities with family or personal life can be particularly difficult. Like many others, I’m passionate about my job and sometimes prioritize professional responsibilities over personal time. So that’s a definite resolution for me for 2025.
Who is a woman that has inspired you in your life or career?
My mum was an incredibly strong and independent woman who taught my sisters and I the importance of perseverance. She always encouraged us to never give up, and to approach challenges with resilience by finding alternative paths or solutions. Her determination and support have shaped the way I approach both my personal and professional life.
What is one lesson you’ve learned as a woman in your profession?
I’ve learned the importance of confidently asserting my voice and owning my expertise. Early on, I second-guessed myself and downplayed my contributions due to a lack of confidence. However, I’ve come to realize that trusting my own judgement and speaking up for what I believe in is important for effectively advocating for myself and others.
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
You can’t do everything at once. Focus on your top priorities and give them your full attention.
