Halton Healthcare’s BRA Day Event Returns Join Us for a Day of Empowerment and Healing

October 1, 2024

Oakville, Ontario – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Halton Healthcare is excited to once again host BRA (Breast Reconstruction Awareness) Day, on October 9, 2024, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) from 5:00-8:00 pm.

BRA Day is a free event for those considering whether reconstruction post-mastectomy is right for them. For many, breast reconstruction marks the final step in their breast cancer journey – a time to reclaim empowerment, confidence, and a renewed sense of self. This special day provides education and support for those facing breast reconstruction and restoration decisions after breast cancer.

“Women with breast cancer face significant challenges, and the choices surrounding breast reconstruction can feel overwhelming,” says Dr. Stephen Chin, Interim Vice President, Medical Affairs. “Halton Healthcare is committed to bringing incredible expertise and guidance in making these important decisions to patients in our community. It’s crucial that women have the opportunity to receive expert information directly, ask questions, and connect with community resources and a supportive community of women who have gone through similar experiences.”

Attendees will be able to access presentations from Halton Healthcare’s breast reconstruction experts, mix and mingle with the experts and interact with our community partner vendor booths. Attendees will also have an opportunity to visit our Show and Tell Lounge, which offers a unique opportunity to hear from patients who have been through it and completed breast reconstruction and see real-life results.

“I am deeply passionate about this event, as I am a breast cancer survivor myself. It’s crucial for women to understand the options available to them after a mastectomy,” says Dr. Alexandra Ginty, Family Medicine Physician and Surgical Assistant at OTMH, Restorative Areola Tattooist and Regional Primary Care Lead for Cancer Screening in the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program. “Every patient has unique choices and empowering them with information is essential for making informed decisions that are right for them. Seeing and talking to women in the Show and Tell Lounge is the real difference that this event makes”.

This year’s BRA Day event is funded by Halton Healthcare and supported by our valued community partners: Look Good Feel Better, Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program (MHCW RCP), Knitted Knockers, Wellspring, Mentor, Allergan, Pink Ribbon and Physician Engagement Specialist for Public Health.

Register for BRA Day 2024.

BRA Day on October 9 at OTMH is free but registration is required. Registration and exhibits open at 4:30 pm with speakers starting at 5:00 pm, followed by the opportunity to mix and mingle and visit the show-and-tell lounge.

We look forward to seeing you at the event and continuing the movement’s mission to close the loop on breast cancer!
