Today marks the anniversary of my first year as CEO at Halton Healthcare and therefore I’ve taken some time to reflect on my first twelve months in the role. This year has been incredibly rewarding as I have spent time getting to know the organization and the community we so proudly serve.

I have immense gratitude for the staff, professional staff and learners that make this organization the great place that it is and who clearly believe in our vision – to provide exemplary care, always.

In just twelve months, we've achieved remarkable milestones, from the opening of new paediatric beds in Milton, announcing a significant land donation in Halton Hills, the conclusion of our Field Hospital in Oakville, to the official launch of One Halton Healthcare.

Halton Region is projected to experience significant population growth, increasing by over 60 percent in the next 25 years. The region’s population aged 65 and older is projected to grow by 30 % from 2021-2028. It’s no surprise that with these predictions, the demand for hospital services will escalate significantly.

Our community is becoming more culturally diverse, underscoring the need for innovative integrated care approaches to ensure equitable access to care for all. Given these population shifts and expected increased demand for hospital services, we launched One Halton Healthcare – focused on developing a clinical service plan, modernizing our clinical program structure, and why we have launched master planning to look at our places and spaces to plan for what we will need in the future.

The plan outlines a bold vision for the future of our clinical services and care and will take significant effort from all of us to think and work creatively to accomplish these goals and to garner the support from government and our communities to set us up for long term success. I look forward to sharing more details about our plan as the work continues.

I want to thank the Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors for their support, advice and trust they have given me over the past 12 months. And I want to thank the people here at Halton who make this job easy and rewarding. It’s the people that make Halton so special.

Our journey together is just getting started and as we reflect on the past year with pride, we also look eagerly towards the future. There is still so much more we can do to continue improving healthcare in our community.
