Become A Board Member

Halton Healthcare is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that consists of 20 board members. Fourteen (14) community members are elected Directors and have a wide range of skills and experience. Six (6) ex-officio members sit as board members by virtue of their position of office or mandated as part of legislation.

Process for Recruitment of Elected Board Members

All Board Directors serve for a ten (10) year term, renewable every two (2) years. When an elected director completes their term the Nominating Sub Committee looks for a replacement with the right mixture of skills, experience, personal qualities and diversity to complement the existing members and address the current needs of Halton healthcare. A candidate’s ability to commit to a significant amount of volunteer time is an important factor in the selection process.

Every year the Nominating Sub Committee determines the terms available and if there are any Board vacancies to fill. If there are vacancies, a Board needs assessment and recruitment process is undertaken. All Board vacancies are publicly advertised in the local press and media. Potential candidates are reviewed based on the Board needs assessment and the candidate’s skills, expertise and community engagement.

The Nominating Sub Committee brings forward a list of recommended candidates to the Governance Committee. The Governance Committee reviews the list and a final recommended candidate is brought forward to the Board for approval. The endorsed candidate is then recommended for election at the Annual General Meeting.

If you are interested in becoming a Board Director you may send your resume to the Board Liaison Office, at the address below, at any time to be kept on file until a vacancy arises.
