New Maternal Newborn Department in the MDH Expansion

Our new Maternal Newborn Department is almost ready to welcome Milton’s newest residents in the new space! Having your baby after October 1, 2017? Here’s some information you’ll want to know:

The new Maternal Newborn Department will have expanded capacity and additional services to better meet the needs of the growing Milton community. The number of babies born at Milton District Hospital continues to grow with the increasing number of young families moving to Milton.

The new Department will offer expanded Maternal Newborn care, including more labour and delivery rooms and a Special Care Nursery for babies who need extra care and closer monitoring. The spaces are designed in such a way that provides a warm and a comfortable place with tasteful décor that makes family feel at home even when in hospital.

Finding Your Way . . .

Located on Level 1 of the new South Block, the Maternal Newborn Department features a direct doorway from the public entrance to the hospital from 725 Bronte Street South (beginning October 1, 2017).

The Maternal Newborn Department will include:

  • Expanded capacity including nine Labour, Birth, Recovery, & Post-partum (LBRP) care rooms as well as 13 additional post-partum rooms
  • Modern birthing rooms for an improved patient experience from labour and birth to recovery
  • A dedicated Operating Birthing Suite for planned and emergency caesarean births The addition of a Level 2A Special Care Nursery with capacity for seven bassinets to care for babies who need extra support and monitoring. The nursery will allow us to deliver babies up to six weeks early, including twins.
  • Parent friendly care-by-parent teaching space
  • Two courtesy rooms for parents so they can be close to babies admitted to the Special Care Nursery
  • Overall welcoming family space to provide Family Centered Care

Midwifery Services at Milton District Hospital

In early 2017, Halton Healthcare expanded its midwifery program to include deliveries at Milton District Hospital. This expanded obstetrical service will provide expectant mothers and their families with a greater range of options in maternal newborn care. Halton Healthcare is a progressive healthcare organization comprised of three community hospitals - Georgetown Hospital (GH), Milton District Hospital (MDH) and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH).
